Weekly Update

July 26-August 1, 2009

Life: This week went by really fast. I got to hang out at Dave's house once where we watched Dodgeball. That movie gets me every time. I also got to hang out at Greg's house, which was interesting since I hadn't been there before. His neighborhood reminded me of Sharon back in PA. On Thursday I was working away on my poster in the Student Computer Center (SCC) when some people started alerting everyone, in raised voices, that they need to leave because campus is closing down. There was a huge fire in a fertilizer warehouse in Bryan, so naturally they decide to close campus so we can all go running out into the fume-infested air... My house was also in an evacuation zone, so Nathan came and picked me up and we went and hung out somewhere else until later that night when we were allowed back home. That was exciting, to say the least.

Research: This week was almost solely devoted to working on the poster. Since I needed to get it approved by Dr. Murphy and the poster is due on Monday, I needed to get it to her by Friday at the latest. I worked pretty long hours this week. InDesign is a great program, although I think there must have been about a hundred better ways I could have gone about designing the poster than the "draw everything using lines so that it's fully custom and so you'll have full control of how things scale" method. Regardless, it turned out alright, got approved, and I'll be turning it in on Monday after some design and content feedback from my Mom and Courtney. Next week will be full with paper writing, presentations, and good-byes.
